Bhū Devi is the personification of Mother Earth. She is the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity. Bhu Devi is the consort of Varaha, the boar incarnation of Lord Vishnu. She is also one of the two consorts of Vishnu, along with Lakshmi. Accordingly, Bhu Devi and goddesses associated with the earth often accompany incarnations of Vishnu. She is also known by the names Bhumi or Bhuma Devi as well as the epithets Dhra, Dharti, Dhrithri, all of which refer to her sustaining beneficence (‘that which holds everything’).
